Etheric Technology and Service Updates

Happy New Year from all of us at Etheric! One of my jobs as CEO is to look ahead and plan the future of our network. Here’s a look at what’s cooking for 2022.

CBRS Long Range Fixed Wireless Services

Affordable 100 megabit+ symmetric service in San Benito and Monterey Counties. Etheric has acquired licensed spectrum in these two counties and will be rolling out services capable of achieving 100 megabits and greater at long range. We also acquired licenses for Inyo, Mono, Modoc and Siskiyou Counties.

G10 of our long range fixed wireless network

We will be rolling out our first “G10” wireless service which is a leapfrog in technology. It allows 3 times the number of customers per access point, at speeds of greater than 100 mbps upload and download. Stay tuned for announcements of where we will be deploying this.

Expansion of our Fiber Ring

We have completed our fiber data center lighting at the pre-eminent data center in San Francisco. We have also completed our fiber data center at San Juan Bautista. We are on track to bring 100 megabit and greater symmetric service from San Juan Bautista in Q1.

Short Range Full Gigabit Base Stations “Gigacell 2.0”

This year these gigabit services have matured, and we are deploying Gigacell 2.0. Back in 2018, some of you may recall our first gigabit wireless systems that could be affordable for regular consumers were launched, the GigaCell. These Gigacells were very short range (a quarter mile from our base station or so.) The Gigacell 2.0 will reach 1 mile or greater, substantially increasing its viability.

High Availability Solutions

We continue to offer dual path solutions to businesses and Home Office customers. We have upgraded some of our core routers to the most advanced routers in the market, and are continuing to upgrade all the core routers. We are also increasing battery at our cellular base stations and evaluating adding wind turbines for power generation during periods of cloudy, rainy or night weather.

Network Design Services

For campus networks, city networks and data center “Cloud” networks, Etheric can help you design large scale networks. We have been told that our network designs are some of the best in the industry, and are currently working with some local municipalities to realize next-generation networks to assist schools and cities to have enough bandwidth during these times where internet connectivity is increasingly vital.

Etheric Welcomes Cliff Beek

Cliff Beek

Etheric Networks warmly welcomes global communications executive Cliff Beek to its board of directors.

Cliff is an accomplished executive with expertise in managing equity-backed companies, with 25-plus years of progressive experience providing leadership and strategic direction to high growth technology organizations, their boards of directors and senior management. Cliff’s expertise will guide Etheric through a significant expansion of its network operations into Northern California over the next six years.

In late 2020 Etheric was a big winner in the 2020 RDOF auction, and will receive nearly $250M over the next 10 years to provide broadband to underserved communities in Northern California. This expansion, compromising 251 Census Block Groups across 25 counties, will position the company as a key broadband provider in the state. Etheric’s hybrid network, comprised of dark fiber, fixed wireless and licensed spectrum, will also serve numerous adjacent communities in addition to the unserved areas designated in the RDOF award.

Alexander Hagen, Etheric’s founder and CEO said: “Cliff’s extensive expertise in global telecom, broadband and satellite markets will be invaluable to Etheric as we scale to be one of the largest broadband providers in California and beyond. His understanding of both the players and game adds considerable bench strength to our board, and we are delighted to welcome him.”

Expanded service areas deliver high-speed wireless internet to meet rising demand for reliable home connections and dedicated community networks

SAN MATEO, CA, UNITED STATES, April 22, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Etheric Networks, the leading provider of wireless internet service in the Bay Area, today announced the purchase of the Mt. Madonna communications tower in Gilroy and the addition of new towers in Gilroy and San Ramon. This expansion brings significant new internet options to thousands more Bay Area businesses and residences and strengthens Etheric’s ability to support robust private community networks.

Shelter-in-place restrictions have forced businesses, schools and social groups to work, learn and build community in new ways, most of them online. Many of these changes could be permanent, making access to reliable internet an even more critical part of our infrastructure. Today’s news furthers Etheric’s goal of reaching 90 percent of Bay Area households and businesses with 99.999% reliability to meet this need.

MT. MADONNA ACQUISITION YEARS IN THE MAKING – In 2004, in response to repeated requests from South County residents for fixed wireless service to their remote area, Etheric partnered with the residents to lease the 1400’ tall KSBW tower on Mt. Madonna in Gilroy, and the company’s first wireless services began in 2005. When the tower faced demolition in 2007, Etheric once again turned to its customers to crowd-source its purchase, finalized in 2009. Etheric has now paid back all of its investors, and Mt Madonna continues to be the flagship of Etheric’s fleet of 35+ towers that provide high-speed wireless internet to most of the Bay Area, including hard-to-reach mountain and rural communities.

NEW TOWERS EXPAND SERVICE IN KEY REGIONS – The two newest additions to the Etheric fleet were lit in the first quarter of 2020. Providing service to residences and business to the San Ramon and Gilroy/San Martin areas, these towers continue Etheric’s goal of reaching communities that are underserved by traditional internet providers. Additionally, the new Gilroy tower is Etheric’s first to be entirely energy independent, with solar power to ensure that internet service is not interrupted by power outages.

MEETING NEW DEMANDS FOR PRIVATE COMMUNITY NETWORKS – Already an emerging trend, interest in creating communication hubs to provide needed bandwidth to those working and learning from home has increased significantly in recent weeks. Etheric’s dedicated fiber backbone and one-hop peering connections to all major Bay Area data centers, combined with its robust wireless broadband capabilities allows the company to rapidly deploy community-wide solutions that can offer significant savings for members.

Alexander Hagen, CEO, Etheric Networks, said: “These are extraordinary times, as households and organizations struggle to obtain reliable broadband access for working and learning from home. We are seeing an incredible demand, and our investment in new infrastructure could not have come at a better time. Etheric was founded by bringing our customers together, and we are dedicated to continuing this legacy as we explore new ways to provide powerful services to our community while touching the land lightly.”
